1) Worked around a write cache/data corruption problems on Quantum Fireball drives installed inside some PowerMacintosh (or PowerMac clone) models. Data corruption and directory damage were sometimes caused when power to the drive was cut while it was writing cached data to the media.
2) IDE drive sleep mode works now.
3) Fixed the way 8-byte IDE Identifiers were read so that vendor strings are properly reported in PowerTools.
4) Clicking the "Partition" button in PowerTools often resulted in bus-wide drive activity, causing long pauses before the Partition Manager could be used. The problem is related to the use of hierarchical menus and using drive aliases in the Apple Menu. In the past, PowerTools would quickly unmount all volumes as a precaution when users clicked the "Partition" button, and then quickly remount them again. This would cause the hierarchical menu to be rebuilt each time. Clicking the Partition button no longer does this.
5) Adds support for Fuji MO drives in PowerBook 5300 media bay.
6) Can now use PowerBook 5300 & 190 with internal Europa drives in "Disk Emulation Mode" with desktop Mac's.
Version 4.0.3 (Non-release)
There was no version 4.0.3 release.
Version 4.0.2 (Released 2/20/96)
1) Fixed a bug in the driver that prevented SyQuest 5200 drives with firmware A24 from writing to 44MB and 88MB cartridges formatted by PowerTools 4.0 or 4.0.1. This behaviour did not affect 200MB cartridges, nor is this symptom exhibited using previous firmware versions.
2) Fixed a problem with Norton FileSaver that caused it to report a disk error ("FileSaver had an error writing disk protection data...") when updating password-protected/manual mount volumes.
3) Fixed a bug that allowed password-protection to be bypassed using SCSIProbe and other generic mounting utilities.
4) Previous versions of PowerTools would automatically reconfigure mode page settings (to the PowerTools-preferred values) of all connected drives, simply by launching PowerTools. Version 4.0.2 and subsequent releases will now only make such changes on the selected drives being prepared by the PowerTools utility, or on drives being installed with the PowerTools driver. Other drives will not be affected.
5) When ejecting media on SyQuest 3.5" drives, eject lever will "pop" out after dragging the media icon to the trash.
6) Changed the Partitioning window so that the user can scale the size of the created partitions by selecting either "Kb" or "Mb".
7) Log files are no longer empty. Previous versions created log files during tests and verifications, but didn't write anything in them.
8) Users can now enable "Verify after Write" on SyQuest drives, although performance will be greatly reduced. SyQuest 44 drives do not have this feature.
9) Fixed a conflict with PC Exchange that prevented DOS-formatted floppies from mounting on the PowerMac 8500.
10) Added several additional driver icons for a wider selection of desktop icons that can be installed.
Version 4.0.1 (Released 1/8/96)
1) The "Scan Bus" function now scans all LUNs on every device, which means it will find LUN devices even when the device at LUN 0 at a given ID is a hard drive or optical drive. Previous versions of APT stopped scanning for additional LUNs at a given SCSI ID when a hard drive or other storage device was found at LUN 0. The only time LUNs greater than 0 were scanned was when a processor device was found at LUN 0. This was done to support SCSI Bus Expanders, like the ATTO Expander.
2) The SCSI drivers in APT 4.0.1 now fully support the Synchronous Data Transfer message, and the Enable Wide message on those devices and busses which support these messages. Performance improvements as high as 200% may be realized on devices which support Fast/Wide SCSI.
3) Support was added for removable ATA devices on the Powerbook 5300.
4) Added support for APS PD drives.
5) The installed driver version number is now reported in the "Where" field of the "Get Info" window of drive volumes selected at the Mac's desktop.
